Switching from Lotus Notes to Outlook proves to be laborious task if conversion has not taken place using efficient and result oriented email migration tool. Some issues do crop up after conversion of .NSF files to .PST file. One common issue is that Mail-to link starts Lotus Notes instead of Outlook, which really tests the patience of user.
Actually what happens is after you convert Lotus Notes to Outlook, on clicking Mailto link Lotus Notes starts instead of Microsoft Outlook. Reason is Lotus Notes is set as the default mail program in Internet Explorer, or in the Mailto protocol or in Notes.ini file.
To get this issue resolved first of all make sure that the program options are set accurately in MS Internet Explorer to start Outlook. And for that follow the given below steps:
1.Go to Microsoft Internet Explorer, on View menu, click Internet Options.
2.On Programs tab in the Messaging section, click to select Microsoft Outlook as the default mail program and click OK.
Secondly, make sure that the Mailto protocol is set accurately to start Outlook and to do that follow the steps given below:
1.Open My Computer
2.Go to Tools menu, click Folder options
3.On File Types tab, click to select, URL:MailTo Protocol from the Registered File Types, click Advanced and then click Edit
4.Verify that the “Application used to perform action” reads: “drive:pathOutlook.exe” -c IPM.Note /m “%1”.
For example:
“C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOFFICEOUTLOOK.EXE” -c IPM.Note /m “%1″
The path may vary slightly as it depends on the version of Outlook. For example, the following path may appear in Outlook 2003
“C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOFFICE11OUTLOOK.EXE” -c IPM.Note /m “%1″
5.Click OK, then click Close button.
Thirdly, make sure that the Notes.ini file is set accurately to start Outlook. To set the Notes.ini File Entry, follow the steps given below:
1.Click the Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders
2.In Named box, type Notes.ini and click Find Now
3.Double-click to open the Notes.ini file in the Search Results window
4.Type the following line after [Notes] header: NotDefaultMailTo=1
5.Close and save the Notes.ini file
This way you can ensure that the Mailto link doesn’t starts Lotus Notes in place of Outlook.
