Every industry is struggling to find the right kind of people for the different jobs that need to be performed. This is exactly what is being faced by the dental community too. This field is one that requires extensive knowledge in terms of the kinds of diseases that can be acquired and the ways they need to be rectified, in short, a field that requires intelligence and intellect. There is a huge gap in the number of people available and the number required meeting the needs of the ever increasing people suffering from dental problems.
It is understood that under qualified people are not suited for such jobs and hence, finding the right people is a much hard ache. The institutions have tried all sorts of things from providing incentives to the doctors qualified to carry out this job to training the under qualified so that they can take up the positions that need to be filled.
The dental healthcare field has opening for people apart from the dentists too. These are for the people who are required to assist the doctors and make the environment a decent one such as the technicians to maintain the various equipments being used in the building, the assistants who are required to be alongside the dentist at all times and provide them with anything that they might want, teachers who are required to train the less knowledgeable ones, experts who can carry out diagnosis as per the directives of the surgeon or the dentist.
All of these jobs are important as they all affect the successful working of a dental healthcare institution in some way or the other. Unfortunately, the good news is that all these positions are equally in the dire need to be filled as there are not many who are interested in taking this field as their carrier objective. This can be attributed to the misnomer that there is a lot of study that needs to be done before actually starting work. I would call it a misnomer because this is only limited to the job of a dentist and not to all the others. There are small courses that can be undertaken which would be enabling the person to qualify for the job (subject to clearing the tests). All refining and tuning would be done with experience which comes over time. If you are a good learner and can adapt to situations, there is a lot of scope for you in this area. For people who do not have a problem with investing some time in gaining education, there are limitless opportunities. One can apply to institutions in the country and abroad where the demand for dentists is equally high.
Thinking back to what brought about this huge gap, we can say that unlike the earlier times, the dentists are in demand not only for the dental problems but also to make a girl look more prettier and a guy look more smart. This trend has only just begun.
