Sleep Problems

Other common sleep problems center on the inability to stay asleep for long periods of time. Again, how this is experienced will vary from person to person but millions from all over the world are experiencing it to some level. Some might just have occasional issues where something else wakes them up and it is impossible to fall back asleep while others experience continuous waking on a nightly basis, sometimes more than once per night.

There are many treatments and medications available today. Often patients use white noise devices or sleep pillows as an initial solution to their problem. If this doesn?t work, they will usually move to a more serious treatment. Among the more popular medications are the sleep drugs. Sleep drugs are especially successful in helping people who are having an especially hard time making themselves sleep. They use the drugs for only a short time in order to ?re-train? their body clock into a normal schedule of sleep. Then, when they have caught up on their rest, they try to transition into a natural method. Over the counter sleep drugs are being used by many people who have an especially tough time sleeping. It is important, however, not to become dependant on these drugs. An FDA warning on sleep drug risks is very alarming as it shows that many people become dependant upon these drugs if they aren?t careful.

Compared to the Benzodiazepines, non-Benzodiapines allow a patient to have a worthwhile sleep and, at the same time, avoid a lot of the risk associated with the Benzodiapine medications. They also don?t cause hangovers for patients using them! There is less risk of dependence and addiction to the drug and less harmful side effects.

Are you having sleep problems? Do you toss and turn at all hours of the night? If so, you are probably suffering from insomnia. And you are not alone! It's estimated that about 20 million Americans suffer from some sort of sleep problem, or five to ten percent of the total U.S. population.

The consequences of insomnia include sleepiness and impaired physical functions. If you have chronic insomnia, you may find yourself to be overly alert all the time, and you have trouble relaxing or remaining calm. In addition, you may feel physical and emotional exhaustion.

There are lots of theories on how to deal with these types of sleep problems. Some include some rather unusual home remedies for insomnia. My personal favorite is a concoction of honey, tea, and milk, although it has never been proven that this actually works. Others have opted for hypnotherapy. Patients learn self-hypnosis that they can use at home when they are trying to sleep. This works on clients whose mind is easily open to suggestion, but it's not quite as effective for those who are more analytical in their thinking.

A common "quick fix" for sleep problems for many people is to take sleeping aids, but these should only be used in very rare instances. Sleeping pills are highly addictive, and offer no real solution for your insomnia. And last year, the Food and Drug Administration found the most popular sleeping aids can cause strange behavior during sleep, such as driving and eating.

In order to ensure that you do not have a sleep problems … food association it is vital to think about the food and drinks that may be having an ill effect on your sleeping pattern. Of course, the first drink on that list is likely to be caffeine related beverages like coffee on account of the awake feeling they supply.
