Did you know that a Person is killed in a Violent Crime Every few Minutes and it only takes a few minutes to stop it! In this article I am going to give you some facts on what happens in the world every day. Also there are ways of preventing these kind of things from happening to you or someone that you love.
It's unfortunate that the violent acts that fill our papers one day are quickly replaced by subsequent and often escalated acts in following days.
And August 2009 has been no exception:
An elderly couple in rural Georgia were killed by a pack of wild dogs while out on a walk this month. Retired professor Lothar Karl Schweder,77, and his wife Sherry, 65, died from multiple animal bites:
A Coleraine man, Ian Hyndman, was the victim of mistaken identity when he was brutally beaten by a masked gang of approximately 8 men.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett remained hospitalized Sunday after a man attacked him with a metal pipe as the mayor tried to assist a grandmother screaming for help near the Wisconsin State Fair.
The statistics show that a fully capable and defensible adult is killed every thirty minutes in the United States. That's not factoring those that survive or permanently injured. Over a hundred-thousand children are abducted each year. In perspective that's about one-hundred large high schools, grades 10-12, emptied out each year.
In the industry of self defense it's hard not to take the numbers personally. As an instructor, we assume an elevated responsibility to protect. It's easy to become desensitized to violence, until it happens to you. As we become more aware of violent crime, we also need to keep our empathy to its victims. It makes you a stronger teacher, student, and friend.
What people do not realize is that you are never too old or too small to learn to defend themselves. Stuff like this does not have to happen with a little training in self defense you can learn how you can protect yourself. If you are aware of your surroundings the chances of you being attacked are lessened. You will be able to know when to get out of there before anything really bad happens. You also need to learn when there is a surprise attack what is the quickest and fastest way to get away and get help.
Things like this happen every day and everyone should be prepared. It doesn't matter where you live or who you are there are evil people in the world that will cause harm to you. So be prepared.
